Group Psychotherapy

Group therapy aims to help people develop more effective problem-solving and crisis-management skills.

It is carried out with one or two therapists, facilitating a group of, ideally 6-8 people. A characteristic of group therapy is the dynamics created by the interaction of individuals within it. The reactions and feelings evoked, play an essential role in the process.

The therapist, coordinates the group, and facilitates this dynamic interaction of relationships. As a consequence, not only the therapist alone is helping the group members, but the members themselves are helping each other.

In group therapy there is a sense of ‘belonging’ which in itself is beneficial and helpful. Through shared experiences and concerns, members give and receive feedback on their strengths or weaknesses, enhance skills that will enable them to improve relationships, and discover their true selves. Members are encouraged by the progress of other members, who serve as role models to them.

Group therapy is extremely beneficial for people suffering with depression, problems in their interpersonal relationships or the opposite sex, low self – esteem, etc.

Research has proved that group psychotherapy is just as effective, and sometimes even more so than individual psychotherapy, for a number of psychological difficulties.

The group therapy session is 90 minutes long and is held once a week at a fixed day and time.
